Worship at Knox on Sunday April 11 featured a recorded interview with Mark Hamilton, Managing Director of Gracefield Christian Camp and Retreat Centre (GCCRC). Mark and Pastor Pot discussed the role that camping can play in children's lives, helping them to develop their Christian faith in a setting where they can learn about the wonder of creation and find their own place in it.

Many current and former members of our Knox Sunday School have very special memories of the cabins on the shores of Lac Castor Blanc where they spent summer weeks, meeting new friends, exploring their faith and listening to the sounds of nature.

Pastor Pot capped the interview by revealing that Knox Session has approved that our congregation become a sponsor of one of the five cabins for children’s summer camp at GCCRC. The other four cabins are already sponsored by Ottawa Presbyterian congregations, and Knox has accepted this opportunity to support GCCRC while building fellowship within our congregation and experiencing the wonder of God’s creation at the camp.

Others from Knox, adults as well as children, have previously enjoyed all that GCCRC has to offer throughout the seasons. This sponsorship will allow even more people to have that experience, while contributing personally to maintaining and improving it.

The cabins have been well maintained over the half century since they were first built, and part of our role will be to discover what additional tender loving care Cabin 4 will need. Our commitment is in two parts: finances and "sweat equity" - money will be needed for materials, and individuals will be invited to share their skills.

We would plan to go to GCCRC together for a day or weekend once a year or more to clean, paint or repair our cabin' all while  enjoying the community and beauty of GCCRC.

We expect this project will be supported by individuals sharing their skills and expertise as well as by monetary donations. People wishing to become involved may contact  jenngord@rogers.com.
